Description
The old tickets with the magnetic stripe on the back and ink stamping are no longer in use or distributed.
New tickets with a QR code on the front are available at TEP ticket offices and all authorised retailers. What is new is that the tickets no longer have to be inserted into the validator for stamping.
How it works
The new tickets can be used through the green validators, which are already in use for paying rides with contactless cards. These devices are equipped with a QR code reader at the bottom. Pass the QR code under the reader at the arrow, holding the ticket about 10 centimetres below the machine to validate the ticket. The distance indicated is approximate and may be less or more, but you should avoid to place the ticket against the reader, otherwise the code cannot be scanned.

Scanning the code under the reader will complete the validation of single-ride ticket, confirmed by the green light and confirmation message on the display.

When you wish to validate multi-passenger tickets for several passengers at the same time, you will need to press this button on the display before scanning the QR code.
How to check the validation time

Press the i button on the validator and scan the ticket again under the reader to read the expiry date and the number of remaining journeys on the display
If you are not on board and want to know if your ticket still has usable journeys, visit www.controllabiglietto.it and scan the QR code, or type in the serial code of your ticket (it’s the number printed under the QR code). You will immediately see the validations you have already made, the expiry time and whether you still have available rides.
The more you travel, the less you pollute
The new tickets are also good for the environment. Thanks to the new system that dispenses with stamping and magnetic strips, almost 176 km of PVC and 79 kg of toner tape are saved every year.
